2012 Funding
Here is the list of the 12
projects that have applied for the Enhancement Grants.
Let us Know
which ones are most important to you and why. Final recommendations
from the committee are submitted December 9th, 2011.
City of Goose Creek - Amy
Drive Sidewalks
1,400 linear feet of 5' wide sidewalk on Amy Drive that
will connect Boulder Bluff Elementary School to the neighborhood
residential area.
City of North Charleston - Dorchester
Road Sidewalk Infill
Dorchester Road needs 5,280 feet of sidewalk filled in along
the 2.6 mile section between great Oak Drive and Foxwood
Drive. This is a heavily traveled road that needs continuous
sidewalks to connect the elementary and middle schools,
as well as the churches and all the homes along the route.
Sidewalks will also connect to the Library and the new Fire
Station and Community Center.
City of Mt Pleasant
- Rifle Range Road Sidewalk/Multi-use Trail
Construction of a combination of concrete 5' sidewalk and
8' mulit-use path (where space permits) along Rifle Range
road between Six Mile and Hamiln Roads. This road is part
of the East Coast Greenway and is a heavily traveled section
of public right of way - evidenced by the path worn in the
grass.
Charleston County - Savage Road
Sidewalks
Construction of a 5' wide sidewalk on the west side of Savage
Road from rt 17 to Henry Recklenburg Dr. approximately 4,200
linear feet. Project also includes converting some open
ditches to cloed drainage..
Charleston County
- SC 61 Sidewalks
8' wide sidewalks proposed to go between Magwood Road and
Tobias Gadson Road, approximately 1 mile, along SC 61. Connects
many residential and commercial areas of town. Area is currently
used by walkers and bikers in the grass shoulder dodging
the brush along the side of the road. This project will
make it an ADA accessible route.
Charleston County - SC 171 Sidewalks
SC 171 sidewalk construction from Ingram road to approximately
Poston Road, 1.2 miles. Sidewalk is proposed to be 5' wide.
This is a proposed connection along a high traffic area
that will connect residential and commercial areas. SC 7
is a busy intersection with lots of pedestrian use.
Charleston County
- Ben Sawyer Blvd. Multi-Use Trail
proposed 8' wide multi use path connection Mt Pleasant to
Sullivan's Island. This is a part of the Battery 2 Beach,
the East Coast Greenway, the CHATS master plan, and a currently
used cooridor to Pedestrian and Bicycle use. The project
is approximately 1.7 mies long and connects to existing
sidewalks and close to existing bicycle lanes on both sides..
City of Hanahan
- Comprehensive Trail System
Connection communities in Hanahan to Commercial and Recreational
Facilities. Plans for an 8' wide multi-use path along existing
roadways and utility cooridors. Approximately 5,000' from
Williams Lane and the proposed future recreation complex.
Dorchester County & Town of
Summerville - Sawmill Branch Trail Extension
Completion of this highly used existing trail. Proposed
1.7 miles of connections to the existing multi-use bicycle
and pedestrian paths. This will help complete the existing
Sawmill Branch trail and connect to local community retail
and residential uses. This will also connect to a state
historic park and local natural surface trails.
Berkeley County
& City of Charleston - St. Thomas Island/Clements Ferry
Rd. Daniel Island Pedestrian Connecction
Completion of a missing link from St. Thomas Island to Daniel
Island. Planned construcction of approximately 4000 linear
feet of multi-use path, including two new bridges to parallel
the existing roadway. This will connect from Clements Ferry
Rd to Blackbaud facility. A phase II will tie in from Blackbaud
the rest of the way into the existing Daniel Island system
of paths. Clements Ferry will also be getting some bike
lanes and/or multi-use path for 4 miles from St. Thomas
Island headed north in 2012, with plans to connect all the
way to Cainhoy and SC 41 in the near future.
City of Charleston - Glenn McConnell
Multi-Use Path
Construction of a Multi-Use path in the Right of Way and
Utlity easemetns that will connet into other planned bicycle
and pedestrian facilites at each end - Bees Ferry Rd and
Mary Ader Ave. Approximately 4,600 linear feet. This project
adds a nice connection to bring people in and out of the
West Ashely area off of Rt 17 traffic.
CARTA - Bus Shelters
CARTA needs some new, and some updates/maintenance to the
existing Bus Shelters. More people use the CARTA buses all
the time. Shelters would make it easier and more comfortable
for all the users.
