Bicycle Safety Rodeos
A Bike Rodeo is usually a children's bicycle
safety clinic featuring helmet fitting, the rules of the
road, and a safety course where children get a chance to
practice stopping at stop signs, going around obstacles
(cones), and using proper turn signals. The participants
are usually escorted through the course by knowledgeable
adult cyclists who point out hazards, safety tips, and explain
how to apply the rules of the road that were mentioned in
the lecture. The main focus of a bike rodeo is Cycling Safety
for young cyclists, ages kindergarten to 14 or so.
Participants leave the rodeo with a Bicycle
Safety Coloring Book, Certificate of Achievement, and a
helmet (if they didn't have one already). Charleston Moves
sponsors Bike Rodeos during the week of the Charleston Cycle
Fest and as other opportunities arise.
If you are interested in organizing a bicycle safety rodeo
in your school or community center contact info@charlestonmoves.org for support.
